Archive and restore a workspace

Archiving pauses a workspace: its agents stop answering on their widgets, chat links and API (402 WORKSPACE_ARCHIVED), it spends no credits and nobody can open it. An organization owner or admin restores it from Organization → Workspaces.

Archiving pauses a workspace: its agents stop answering on their widgets, chat links and API, and it spends no credits. Nobody can open it and it leaves everyone's switcher, but nothing in it is deleted. An organization owner or admin can restore it, and it comes back as it was.

Before you start

  • You're an organization owner or admin. The Default workspace can't be archived: it holds the organization's balance.
  • Its agents stop answering the moment it's archived. If people use its widgets or chat links, tell them first, or move the agents they need to another workspace.

Archive it

  1. 1

    Open Workspaces

Settings → Organization → Workspaces, then Archive on the workspace's row. From inside the workspace, Settings → Workspace → General → Archive workspace does the same.

  2. 2

    Confirm

The dialog says what happens: "Archiving pauses this workspace: its agents stop answering on their widgets, chat links and API, and it spends no credits. Members can't open it. An organization admin can restore it later under Organization → Workspaces." Choose Archive workspace.

You're done when

It's gone from the switcher and listed under Archived at the bottom of the Workspaces page, with when it was archived and by whom. If it was the workspace you had open, the app moves you to another one. The audit log records "Archived the workspace <name>".

While it's archived

  • Requests to its agents, from the API with its secret key and from its widgets and chat links, get 402 WORKSPACE_ARCHIVED: "This workspace is archived. An organization admin can restore it under Settings → Organization → Workspaces." Widget and chat link visitors read that the assistant is unavailable right now.
  • Its workflow runs stop with the same code as soon as they need a credit: agent and AI blocks, and runs that send something out (HTTP request, webhook, Slack, email). Knowledge, evaluations and Insights reports that cost credits don't run either.
  • Its agents, knowledge, conversations, keys, environments and releases are kept. Its spend still shows on Usage for the days it used credits, marked Archived.
  • Its name is free for a new workspace.

Restore it

  1. 1

    Find it

Organization owners and admins see Archived at the bottom of Settings → Organization → Workspaces.

  2. 2

    Restore

Choose Restore on its row. It's back among the workspaces and in the switcher of everyone who could open it, and its agents answer again straight away, with the same keys, widgets and chat links. The audit log records "Restored the workspace <name>".

If something goes wrong

Archive isn't shown for a workspace

It's the Default workspace, or you aren't an organization owner or admin.

Its agents answer 402 WORKSPACE_ARCHIVED

The workspace is archived. An organization owner or admin restores it under Settings → Organization → Workspaces → Archived.

"There's already a workspace called …" when restoring

Another workspace took its name while it was archived. Rename that one, then restore this one.

Restoring says the organization has the most open workspaces it can have

A restored workspace counts as open again. Archive one you no longer use first.

Can I delete a workspace?

Not on its own: archive it to stop it. An organization's workspaces are deleted with the organization. See Delete an organization.
