Transfer ownership of an organization

An organization has one owner. The owner can hand it to another member, for example before leaving the company or deleting their account. The new owner gets everything the owner had, including deleting the organization; you become an admin.

Before you start

• You're the organization's owner, and the person is already a member of it, with any role. If they aren't, invite them first.
• It isn't your personal organization, the one made with your account (named after you). Its balance is your account's, so it stays with you: create another organization for the team and transfer that one. See Create another organization.

Steps

   Open Members

   Go to Settings → Organization → Members.

   Choose Make owner

   On the person's row, choose Make owner. Only the owner sees it.

   Confirm

   The dialog says what happens: "You'll become an admin and <name> becomes the owner. Only the owner can delete the organization or transfer it again." Choose Make owner.

What changes

• They're the owner and an admin of every workspace; they're also listed as an admin of the Default workspace if they weren't in it.
• You're an admin: you keep members, workspaces and billing, and can now leave the organization under Settings → Organization → General.
• Nothing else moves: workspaces, agents, keys, the balance and the card stay where they are. Billing emails go to the new owner and the Default workspace's admins.
